My Angles!! Three Things I Need to Get Off My Chest

I’m in Nice this week to see my father, and it’s been one of those visits that feels both grounding and emotional in all the best ways. There’s something about coming home, you know, really coming home, that slows you down, sharpens old memories, and reminds you of parts of yourself you forget when life gets loud.

And of course, in my family, everything happens in the kitchen. Joy, teasing, stories, politics, snacks, advice you didn’t ask for - somehow it all ends up simmering in one pot! I’ve spent the past few days drifting between the kitchens of different relatives, each space familiar in its own way, each person insisting I eat “just a little more.” It’s sweet. It’s intimate. It’s also… a lot of food for one human being.

So today, in the most loving way possible, Patrick and I carved out a few hours for ourselves… to … you guessed it right …. eat some more!

First of all: I did not eat two lunches in one day. I feel the need to make that clear before anyone thinks I’m out here doing competitive eating.

But on different days, I made sure to sneak in two of my favourite Nice spots:

This place is like comfort food but elegant. Classic Niçois dishes, no fuss, no overthinking, just really solid cooking. It’s the kind of restaurant where you sit down and immediately relax because you know you’re in good hands. I had one of those meals that makes you stop halfway through and think, “Okay, I needed this.”

We also ended up here - a bit livelier, a bit more buzzy, the sort of place where people-watching becomes part of the experience. Zero shame. Great food. Excellent mood reset. PLUS interiors are chic as f!

Both meals were exactly the right antidote to being gently over-fed by multiple family members with strong opinions on seasoning.
